I often wonder what planet I'm from. And who's this dork in the picture? I've never met a writer this pretty.

if you had lost one of your shoes, and only had one left of the pair, then getting rid of the lone shoe would be getting rid of one thing, not half a thing. so if you get rid of a pair, you just got rid of two things - i'll allow that. you could make an argument for being able to count the laces if you took them out of the shoes first, but why? the number isn't really the point, is it.
