Dig This

I just discovered that if I dug a hole all the way through the earth it would end up in the Indian Ocean. I think it goes without saying that I'd never get that far, what with all that magma and the like.

I wonder how far the deepest hole ever dug with a shovel went?
I wonder if the internet can tell me?

If anybody finds it before I do, let me know. :-)

I don't think you should be trying to find out on the web. I Think you should start a competition.... Everyone should start digging a hole (and see who winds up in hospital having had their hole collapse on them first, wow, my training really takes the fun out of everything).

Well, some of us are smart enough to line the thing with something to shore it up.

What percentage of people in collapsing holes make it to the hospital and live?

Does it seem to anybody else that the word verification thing has more Zs, Xs, and Qs than a scrabble set?

Yes, that's called natural selection. I'd say 50%, but that's because I make things up.

My word verification - pfivif - please forgive me if I lie - has no Zs, Xs or Qs:)
