Groan

It's that time again. We're about to be barraged with the 'year that was', 'tribute to', and top 10 lists.

Humans sure are funny creatures.

Rollercoaster

So tonight we got just a tiny layer of ice on the pavement and tomorrow it will melt again. Than Monday, it will be back up to spring temps again before we slide back into winter.

It's paradise, I tell you.

Fog

So it went from Zero (-18C) and ice a few days a go to 50f (10C) today and everything is melting so fast we have all this strange, low lying fog. It's not everywhere, just some places, so you can go around a corner and there it is. It's not making road travel dangerous, it's just kind of creepy and weird.

Happy Pagan Yule Log Day!

People...

Though it hasn't ceased to amuse me yet, I'm a little surprised at how many times I've seen this in the last three days. People open their car trunk letting the lid reach it's full travel, the ice they never bothered to remove breaks loose, slides to the rear window and then down into the trunk. Happens over and over. (chuckles)

More Ice

Ice

Lucky So Far...

The power was off for a while during the night, but seems to be stable for now. There are about 2000 households in this town alone that are not so lucky. The outages seem to be increasing this morning, maybe the wind is picking up. Things (ice, limbs) are still falling on the roof as I type. The temp claims to be just above freezing, so maybe enough ice will break off and fall to put us in the clear today.

I'll see if I can get any decent pictures. :-)

See you when I see you.

Not Bad So Far...

Another Lovely Day In The Midwest

A MIXTURE OF FREEZING RAIN...SLEET AND SNOW WILL BEGIN BETWEEN 1 PM
AND 5 PM THIS AFTERNOON. ICE ACCUMULATIONS WILL RANGE FROM A
TRACE TO ONE TENTH OF AN INCH BY THE EVENING COMMUTE. THE
PRECIPITATION WILL CHANGE TO SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN OVERNIGHT.
FREEZING RAIN WILL RESULT IN ICE ACCUMULATIONS RANGING FROM ONE
QUARTER INCH SOUTH OF INTERSTATE 80...TO THREE QUARTERS OF AN INCH
OR GREATER ALONG AND SOUTH OF HIGHWAY 34.
THERE IS
THE POTENTIAL FOR THUNDERSTORMS...WHICH WOULD RESULT IN PERIODS OF
HEAVY SLEET AND RAPID ICE ACCUMULATIONS. THIS WOULD CAUSE DANGEROUS
AND RAPIDLY DETERIORATING TRAVEL CONDITIONS.

THE PROBABILITY OF EXTENDED POWER FAILURES IS HIGH WITH THIS
STORM.
WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO REMAIN LIGHT TONIGHT...BUT ARE
EXPECTED TO INCREASE TO 10 TO 20 MPH FOR A TIME FRIDAY MORNING.

Trade?

For those of you in milder climates and warmer seasons, it was mostly sunny here today and our high temperature for the day was about -10C.

Just thought you'd like to know.

Entangled

I'm a pretty thorough guy most of the time, but I miss things sometimes. It's amazing how complex it can be when you volunteer to entangle your life with another. You never fully realize it until you go to un-entwine. I still keep finding (or having them pointed out to me) little things I forgot about, and I'm 10,000 miles away. Kind of makes me less eager to jump into local complications.

I guess it's a little like having someone important die, You never really get over it, you just get used to it. Here's to moving forward.

Oh, Why Not?

The only time I read my own stuff is when I'm proofing or looking for a reference. Don't know what that's about. Maybe it's time I reclaimed what's mine.

Sometimes you just have to let the monsters off the chain and stay out of the way. Nobody said it had to be pretty all the time. Let's see where they go this time.

I have a feeling it's going to be dark and bloody.

Make It Stop

It's that time of year again. I don't actually hate most Xmas music, until I've heard it *fifty* times. Until I find it playing *everywhere* I go. I get in the truck and it's on the radio, so I have to change the station. Sometimes I'm lucky enough to be working in a basement or garage where I can barely hear the stuff being played throughout place. I leave there, and it's on the radio, so I have to change the station - again. I stop by the bank to put in a few checks from the last few jobs, and it's playing there. I get back in the truck, the station is still okay. Whew. I stop by the store to replenish some food stuffs, and it's playing there. On the way home, you guessed it, I have to change the station - again.

I'd almost rather listen to car alarms.

Somebody please make it stop.

:-)

Welcome to Illinois!

This guy:

Is the Governor of the state I live in. He got arrested (by the Feds!) today.

A little background. In the last half century, we've only had one Governor that didn't go to jail. Some of them didn't go to jail until they were out of office, and one of those was nice enough to wait until his term ended to do anything illegal, and go to jail. So the bar was pretty low to start with, finishing a term without getting convicted is pretty much a success here.

Rod Blagojevich, as Governor of Illinois is (was) the guy who gets to appoint someone to (President Elect) Barrack Obama's empty Senate seat. It would seem his selection process had something to do with the highest bidder. Nice.

I don't really have much to add, which I suppose is all the comment I really need to make. :-)

I'm gonna have to add THIS to my links. Kind of an interesting idea. I think I found it originally through YouTube of all things.

See what you think.

Snow

So we got a little bit of snow in the last couple days, but today the temp will be back up above freezing so it will most likely melt soon. I guess it's time to put the shorts away for a few months.

I blame gravity.
