Finally!

A Thought

I've had occasion to talk to many of my female friends today, both blogging friends and analog world friends. The theme for the day seems to be doubt about what they have to offer the men in their lives or the men they want in their lives. I wouldn't presume to speak for all men, but I will share my thoughts and you can look around at the people you know and have known to gauge their accuracy.

What can you offer us (aside from sex, obviously) that we want and need? The same thing that women have given us since time began, you can offer us *hope*. We like hope, we need hope. We'll travel thousands of miles on hope. You've seen guys do it, hang onto a something that's all but dead because they still have hope. We'll fight until the last breath if we have that. The worst thing you can do to us is take away our hope. That's what breaks us in the end. If you want to see your man move a mountain, let him have his hope.

"Woe Is Me"

Having some degree of intellect, it's hard to turn it off and pretend to be stupid. So I get sucked in every time. I have this friend who goes on about how horrible life is, how much it's self inflicted, and all that, but...if only.... And I try to make helpful, considered suggestions for overcoming that obstacle only to be confronted with another. So what it boils down to is that some people don't actually want to improve their troubled lives, they just want to use it to get you to listen and pony up with the sympathy. Apply, Lather, Rinse, Repeat. After a while it just gets kind of tedious, it's not going to get better and we both know it. So I'm kind of sitting in as an unqualified, unpaid psychotherapist.

Maybe I should just watch more movies.

Bail Out

So the proposed bail out of Wall Street is more money than the annual budgets of any country on the planet save for six? Really? Maybe we should just nationalize those failing companies. If you can't be responsible, you don't get to play.

I won't get to watch the debate tonight, but I'm interested. Politics in this country has become something like a train wreck, horrible yet you can't look away. Maybe We the People should be thinking about bailing out to someplace else. Canada, anyone?

Bang!

I've noticed that lately I've grown a little gun-shy about what I post here. And I'm not posting as much, which is understandable I guess. But people have pointed out to me that this blog has been here a long time (in blog years) and I can't let things that might be or things I imagine or perceive dictate how I live. So I'm going to pick this blog-gun back up, pull the trigger, and see what happens. It may take a little while before I get back to daily posts, but any and all comments will help.

So what's everybody doing these days?

Gothcat

"Love, you know, seeks to make happy rather than to be happy." - Ralph Connor

You wouldn't have been happy with me.

My only wish for you has been, and will always be, all the prosperity and happiness one heart can hold. I don't regret knowing you or loving you, and I never will.

Goodbye My Love.

For those of you with questions, I don't have the answers you want. What I have is an ending well before I thought, in a way I never imagined. I have love enough to let it go, and the strength to go on.

I'm still here, and thanks to everyone whose been so good through this, putting little parts of their lives aside for me.

Tomorrow Is

World Gratitude Day. I don't know if that means the world should be grateful or if we should be grateful for it.

The 22nd is Hobbit Day. Do I really need to make jokes about this?

The 23rd is Dogs In Politics Day. They couldn't do much worst than the current lot.

I'm really waiting for one of my perennial favorites.
The 28th is Ask A Stupid Question Day! Unfortunately it it says "A" stupid question, because I have lots of them. I could make a list.

EE&V

Eyes
Dark tunnel underground, the only light, sun rays through an overhead opening.

Ears
Distant, heavy, serious machinery.

Voice
"Do you understand?"

"You're telling me I was never qualified? Now? Let it go. You fired me, I don't work here anymore."

Stupid

DALLAS - Police said two burglars struck a Texas store that sells high-end security equipment, and the whole thing was caught on tape by 17 cameras rolling in the store.

NEW YORK, - An ex-con allegedly tried to rob two people in New York, police said, but didn't notice his intended victims were police officers -- in uniform.

A PERTH man has been charged with drink driving three times in 24 hours.

SHALIMAR — A woman who came to the Sheriff’s Office offering special information about drugs in the county was booked and jailed after she told investigators she smoked crack right before she came in the building.

McALLEN, Texas - A man was arrested for drug possession after telling authorities that two masked gunmen had stolen 150 pounds of marijuana from his home.

MONTERREY, Mexico - Three Mexican minors detained in California on suspicion of smuggling drugs stole a U.S. Border Patrol car while still wearing handcuffs and drove it back across the border to Mexico.

Police in Oakland, CA spent two hours attempting to subdue a gunman who had barricaded himself inside his home. After firing ten tear gas canisters, officers discovered that the man was standing beside them in the police line, shouting, "Please come out and give yourself up."

Seattle: When a man attempted to siphon gasoline from a motor home parked on a Seattle street, he got much more than he bargained for. Police arrived at the scene to find an ill man curled up next to a motor home near spilled sewage. A police spokesman said that the man admitted to trying to steal gasoline and plugged his hose into the motor home's sewage tank by mistake. The owner of the vehicle declined to press charges, saying it was the best laugh he'd ever had.

Stuck On You

You can shake an apple off an apple tree
Shake-a, shake- suger,
But you'll never shake me
Uh-uh-uh
No-sir-ee, uh, uh
I'm gonna stick like glue,
Stick, because I'm
Stuck on you

Gonna run my fingers through your long black hair
Squeeze you tighter than a grizzly bear
Uh-uh-uh,
Yes-sir-ee, uh, uh
I'm gonna stick like glue
Stick, because I'm
Stuck on you

Hide in the kitchen, hide in the hall
Ain't gonna do you no good at all
'Cause once I catch ya and the kissin' starts
A team o' wild horses couldn't tear us apart
Try to take a tiger from his daddy's side
That's how love is gonna keep us tied
Uh-uh-uh
Yes-sir-ee, uh,uh
I'm gonna stick like glue
Stick, because I'm
Stuck on you

EE&V

Eyes
Urban darkness, artificial twilight.

Ears
Crisp air that makes the bugs stop so you can hear the breeze.

Voice
"So when does the shiny wear off?"

"It can't wear off, it goes all the way through."

Pictures

This is the first hint of sunrise past the wing over the Pacific Ocean just before landing in Sydney.

The town is pretty much in the mountains and the views are awesome.

This lookout is just a few hundred yards from the house. Almost as beautiful as Gothcat.

Just a cool picture of the evening sky.

The streets remind me of a town near where I grew up. One more reason why it feels like home.

Sydney from the plane on the trip back.
