Tomorrow Is
Escape Day.
I wonder if that's some kind of sign. The trouble is, there are two doors and I don't know which one is the way out. But you can't stay where you are because not making a decision is, in itself, a decision.
Anybody got a lucky coin I can flip?

Interesting
Okay, so that music blog gets almost no visits. The few visitors it does get are quite interesting. They're almost completely hits from search engines, but not what I would have guessed.
I had no idea Till Tuesday had fans in Mexico, or that Blue Swede was popular in Tunisia. Simon and Garfunkel have at least one fan in Brazil and Dick Dale seems to have one in Coatia. Yelo got a hit from Chile. The James Bond theme got one from the Ukraine. None of these countries are primarily English speaking, but the one hit from the United Kingdom was for the only song *not* in English.
Blue Swede also got hit from Hungary. Meat Loaf got one from Indonesia, go figure. Roxette also has a fan in Brazil.
So I guess the world really is smaller than I thought. Hmmmm.

GB
I've been in a less than great mood all day which is too bad since it was unseasonably nice outside. The cure was so simple it's shocking.
It's amazing how much better I feel after listening to a little Gogol Bordello.

Looks Like Work To Me
It doesn't really get rolling until 1:50 or so. Still, he hardly breaks a sweat.

Learning To Fly
Ice is forming on the tips of my wings
Unheeded warnings, I thought I thought of everything
No navigator to find my way home
Unladened, empty and turned to stone
A soul in tension that's learning to fly
Condition grounded but determined to try
Can't keep my mind from the circling skies
Tongue-tied and twisted just an earth-bound misfit, I
--David Gilmour

Integrity
You know how some people say stuff they don't really mean?
"Sure, call me anytime."
"Drop by sometime."
"I'll help you, when is it?"
They just say stuff to be supportive but they hope you don't take them seriously because they don't really want to have to do it. They're not actually offering, just being polite.
You know what I mean?
I don't do that.
I don't offer things I can't deliver on and I don't make promises I don't intend to keep. If I offer to help you move, I show up fully prepared to load everything you own even if no one else shows. If I wasn't willing, I wouldn't have said so.
I hope she gets that about me rather than assuming I'm just 'talking her up".

Ah Ha!
I have an idea. If I don't get the chance to work those thoughts into a conversation, maybe I should just write them down and wait until Feb 14th, Valentines Day.
Good idea or bad, anybody?

Complicated
I won't get into the whole story behind this because it's, well, complicated. These are just some things I keep meaning to say to her but never seem to work into the conversation. I figure I should write them down so I don't forget the words.
---------------------------------------------------------------
As long as I've known you, you've always been straightforward, open, and honest - at least with me. Keep doing that and I've got your back until the end of time.
It's cool that you're not high maintenance and kind of a tom-boy but can still get dressed up and be girly when you want. I like that versatility.
I'm impressed by your strength of character. You never carry a chip on your shoulder or use it like a weapon. It's never that selfish, bitchy subsitute, but the quiet, confident strength that's so incredibly sexy. Might as well bolt my feet to the floor, I'm not going anywhere.
Whatever level of trust you're willing to let me earn, I'll never use it to hurt you.
I like that you have absolutely no idea how beautiful you are. Not pretty, that's for fashion models with too much make-up and airbrushing. Pretty is often fragile, fleeting, and brittle. You're beautiful, as in gorgeous. Entirely.
If I knew how, I'd kiss your soul.

Playing With ZabaSearch
Santa Clause has three houses that aren't at the north pole. One in Bremerton, Washington, one in Hudson, Wisconsin, and a third in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Jesus Christ has houses all over the country, far too many to list here.
Does anybody know what Satan's first name is? If it's Eddy, he lives in Florida.
There are a lot of people named "E. Bunny" but none claim the first name "Easter".
There are 135 "George Washington"s in my state alone. I thought he died a long time ago.
Go see what you can find.

Questions
Why is it that of all the people I know with cell phones the guys are many times more likely to answer my calls than the women? And the women are also less likely to return calls?
Is dating the most stupifyingly confusing thing humans have thought up in the last couple thousand years?
Is it really considered rude to wink at a girl in Australia? Why, what's it mean over there?
Does anybody besides Jade actually read these things, or are you all just going straight for the funny videos?
Am I insane? (See a couple posts back.)
Oh, and today is Make Your Dream Come True Day and Blame Someone Else Day. Does anyone see a wee bit of cross-wiring in that?
Thanks.

My Turn
I don't do the New Years Resolution thing because it's really just a setup for defeat. So it's completely coincidental that this comes around this time of year, it's just when things happened to happen that made me think.
You know what happens when you don't go after what you want?
You don't get it.
So I'm looking at things that are (or should be) within my reach and I'm not taking any shortcuts or skipping any steps, I'm prepared to do the work. That's something I can do, something I'm good at. I'm tired of not living up to my potential. I'm tired of looking at a world that isn't fair. It never was. I can't let that stop me.
There won't be any sweeping, dramatic changes, but it's my turn now and the world better not get in my way.
Even the biggest mountain can be moved one rock at a time.

Feeling Quotey
“Whoever knows he is deep, strives for clarity; whoever would like to appear deep to the crowd, strives for obscurity. For the crowd considers anything deep if only it cannot see to the bottom: the crowd is so timid and afraid of going into the water.”
--Fredrich Neitzsche
“To live for results would be to sentence myself to continuous frustration. My only sure reward is in my actions and not from them.”
--Hugh Prather
"I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It's when you know you're licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what."
--Harper Lee
"The wise man will love; all others will desire."

EE&V
Eyes
Darkness with the strange glow in the sky that only comes with fresh snow.
Ears
A steady wind through bare tree branches.
Voice
"Can I change my mind later?"
"Sure, but it may not be your mind you have to change by then."

Un-Chilly
Remember when it was chilly a few days ago?
Well, welcome to my part of the world where abnormal is normal. Today and tomorrow, we're having high temps in the low 60s. (Around 17 for those of you in C)
Who knows what we'll get next.
The saying around here goes - "Don't like the weather? Wait an hour, it'll change."

You Decide
Barack Obama won the Democratic Iowa caucus tonight, the first small victory on the road to the Presidency. That doesn't mean he'll win it, but look at the difference.
The second video is the guy we have now.
"Human being and fish can co-exist peacefully." WTF?

They Made Me Do It
Gothcat and Jade got me going, and that always leads to trouble. :-)
It's a Dragon thing and a New Year's thing all at the same time. How could I pass that up?

Chilly
For those of you in hotter parts of the world, it's 7 degrees here right now. And for those of you who use a temperature system that actually makes sense, I think that converts to about -14c. I'm sure there are some whiners here who'd call that cold, but I think cold is when the daytime high temp doesn't get above 0. Farenheit. (about -18 for you guys I think)
A few degrees colder and kids can start sticking their tongues to metal things. Sometimes, when it really gets down there, you can get your fingers to stick to metal, like your keys.

Happy New Year!
Thanks to the nice folks at BKWine for the temporary use of their classy photo.
Hope everybody celebrated heartily but safely.
