Random Irony

Is gourmet just a code word for expensive?

How can you tell what's true and what's not on the internet?

An adult human skull weighs about 1 kilo.

Monday is Be Late For Something Day

Tuesday is Fight Procrastination Day

Does anybody see the irony here?

Useless Trivia

Tomorrow Already

Getting late, it's already "More Herbs, Less Salt Day".
I think it's time to sleep.

More tomorrow (oh wait, today) and I'll try not to type like a zombie.

New Toy

Puttering around today collecting evidence to tell a bunch of people all the stuff that was wrong with their websites, I discover mine aren't fully compliant, oh the horror of it all. (It was just a glitch in the doctype declaration.) They are now, well except for the style sheets. I'll get to them soon. Anyway, I found an open source editor (Amaya 9.51) on the W3C website and downloaded it. It looks cool so far, but I've barely started messing with it.

No, I didn't watch the Emmys. I was watching "The Murder Room" on PBS.

Rach, go HERE. :-)

Sleep over? Will there be pictures? :-)

I know somebody who's done more than an hour of freefall. (might be more than 2, I forget)

Not A Food

Today (August 27) is Petroleum Day. Not anything I'd eat, I'll tell you that.

And tomorrow is World Sauntering Day. I don't know what kind of committee thinks these thing up, maybe it's the same folks who decided Pluto isn't a planet anymore. :-)

Some odd factiods I found:

The average woman consumes 6 pounds of lipstick in her lifetime.

You use more calories eating celery than there are in the celery itself.

There are 1 million ants for every person in the world.

Termites eat through wood 2 times faster when listening to rock music.

Mightiest Nation

It's almost a year since Hurricane Katrina erased most of the gulf coast. So far, only about 16% of these people have gotten back to anything like a normal life. Seems like we should be able to do better.

Casualties, 1300.
Missing, 6600 (including over 1000 children).
Cost, 120 Billion and climbing.

Oh, and we're still in that war, experts say maybe for another 10 to 15 years.

November can't come soon enough.

Sorry to be depressing, but sometimes it has to be said lest we forget the responsibility that comes with being citizens of the mightiest nation.

Pick One

I guess I could add them all, but it's more fun to have some imput from those who wil have to look at it. :-)

I tried the chartreuse, but it looks bad against the background. I think I'll stay with the dark text and light back, because the reverse makes my eyes do weird things.

Jade, if I did this right, apparently I need to build my own tumbler.

Failure

Somebody told me to type "failure" into Google and see what I get.
This was on the top of the list when I did it.

Anybody have any opinions on what I should change the colors to next time I get bored?

You've got several hours to kill, music, movies, or books?

Why?

Oh, and tomorrow is National Spongecake Day. Hopefully I don't have to explain what that is. :-)

Spumoni

From Wikipedia:

Spumoni or spumone is a molded Italian ice cream made with layers of different colors and flavors, usually containing candied fruits and nuts. Typically it is of two flavors, with a fruit/nut layer between them. The ice cream layers are often mixed with whipped cream. Chocolate and pistachio are the typical flavors of the ice cream layers, the fruit/nut layer often contains cherry bits.

This dish comes from Naples, and the three-flavored Neapolitan ice cream evolved from it. Because of immigration influx, it's very popular in Argentina too.

It is an 'original' ice cream flavor and is yet considered unorthodox by today's standards. The addition of candied fruit and nuts likens the spumoni flavor to that of a fruitcake.

From Epicurious.com:

spumoni
[spuh-MOH-nee, spoo-MOH-nee]
This frozen molded Italian dessert consists of two layers of ice cream (such as chocolate and vanilla) between which is sandwiched a layer of sweetened whipped cream that has been flavored with rum and mixed with toasted nuts and candied fruit. Sometimes the ice cream is lightened with whipped cream or beaten egg whites before being spooned into the mold. Spumoni is cut into slices and sometimes served with a sweet sauce that complements the ice cream flavors.

Bec, brain of the day doesn't sound like a bad idea for some people, different personalities and all.

Rach, there aren't always scary, sometimes they're laughable.

Becky, I didn't see "Shaun of the Dead", but I saw the trailers and I would probably find it funny. But that's me.

Jade, I don't think it's all that gross, but you can read that stuff above and decide for yourself.

SW, hopefully we've shed a little light and maybe opened up new markets for a tasty treat or two. :-)

If Zombies Ran The World

Sometimes I type silly, kind of random things into search engines just to see what I'll get. I put the title of this post, no quotes, in and got back 1,950,000 results. Some of them actually seem to be about the topic in question, how bizzare. It's a strange world out there...

Oh, and tomorrow (Monday) is National Spumoni Day.

Be safe, Be happy.

Well Yeah (In Green)

I did said minor changes. It's just colors and stuff. There's five different style sheets, I was just tinkering around with one. It's a geek thing, I guess. :-)

Why can't movie makers get something that looks like blood? (stop with the corn syrup already)

Do these people care about continuity? (right hand, left hand, sunglasses on/off, top button open/closed)

And where do they get movie critics, people who couldn't figure out how to put little price tags on the edge of the shelf in the big box stores? (no, that's not a jab at challenged people

At least the weather is cooler. :-)

I Had To Tinker With It

The blog that is. I got kind of bored with the old thing, so I tweaked the text and border colors a little. It's not much, but it feels fresh to me.

I trust you'll let me know if these minor changes make it do something strange in your browser/feeder. (Yes, you can make stuff up as long as I know you're kidding.)

I checked my favorite blogs and only two of us posted.
But at least a 'happy tree' left me a comment. :-)

Yes, I know there are a bunch more people I need to add to my links over there, and I'll get to it pretty soon here.
Who knows, maybe I'll toss in a few new blog things. It's kind of like the digital version of dusting and washing the winows.

I Found This...

Online.

I think this might make a good publicity shot. :-)

It was just a traffic violation, though there are some people who'd argue that they should have never let him go. So far, Vista is falling down a flight of stairs. Maybe they'll fix some of it by the time they finally release it. Whenever that turns out to be.

I use linux. I like linux.

Witching Hour

Somehow I keep managing to let the time get away from me reading everybody else's blogs and before I know it it's after midnight. Then my post shows up as a day later than it was for me. Yeah, I know, if this is my biggest complaint, life can't be that bad.
(done whining)

Oh, and August 18th is Bad Poetry Day. That could be fun. I better start searching soon. :-)

For taking in the rain when I'm feeling so dry
For giving me the answers when I'm asking you why
My oh my, for that I thank you
For taking in the sun when I'm feeling so cold
For giving me a child when my body is old
Don't you know for that I need you

For coming to my room when you know I'm alone
For finding me a highway and for driving me home
For that I serve you

For pulling me away when I'm starting to fall
For revving me up when I'm starting to stall
And all in all for that I want you

For taking and for giving and for playing the game
For praying for my future in the days that remain
Oh Lord for that I hold you

Ah but most of all
For crying out loud
For that I love you
When you're crying out loud
You know I love you

King Kong, in Cannes, on a date with Spiderman.
Dan Dar's sitting there, scared by the killer teddy bears.
Down town, Mini mouse is slippin Micky's in the famous grouse, while big bird spreads the word

Judge Dredd, found dead, face down in Snoopy's bed.

Feeling Lazy

Tomorrow is Presidential Joke Day. Like that'll be hard. I'm not even going to post any links, you can use any search engine and find enough material to keep you busy for the whole day.

Which do you remember more clearly, the first kiss or the last one?

Headphones on, listening to the CD player, I think I'm going to have to rebuild a list soon.
Some stuff is just too good not to include in the soundtrack that plays in my head when I sit at the keyboard. Besides, Choo needs this tune. I'll work it in.

Romantic Machines?

I wonder if it means anything that
August 24 is Knife Day, and the day after is
Kiss-And-Make-Up Day?
I think the people who'll celebrate both live around here.

Oh, and while we're at it, August is Romance Awareness Month.
I for one, am fully aware that romance exists. :-)

Can you tell a human from a machine? Take a look at the Turing Test and see how you do.

Yeaterday's Answers

Yes.

Yes.

Close. Actually the cover and the hole are round because that's the only regular polygon you can use where some jerk (like me) can't come along and turn the thing on a diagonal or an axis and drop it down the pipe. Short answer: it won't fall down the hole.

Yes. Technically, it's 11.23 Km/second. (Why do I know this? I'm kind of a geek.)

Thanks for taking my silly little quiz. :-)
I wish I had some prizes or something to hand out. Huzzah!

Almost Forgot To Name This

Cooler weather, no real storms. Better.

Nothing really socially significant jumps to mind tonight. Not that there's a shortage in the world, just none that I feel I have a rant or solution for. (I'm sure I've left a few speechless with that.)

So let's have some other silliness.

What's the thing you can break just by naming it?

What's the difference between here and there?

Why are manhole covers round?

What's escape velocity from Earth for ballistic flight in metric?

Sweeping Out My Brain

B, here's that Yaris

Waiting for the cooler air, should come through tonight. (crosses fingers)

Mel Gibson is in hot water. Yes, he said some stupid stuff, and is sorry now. Just like most drunk people. With Iraq, Lebanon, and a host of other things, this is what's news? I'm not defending the guy, but how come he can't be a jerk when he's hammered like everybody else?

How expensive is postage to the other side of the world? This looks like fun to me. Okay, I'm a geek.

These people were ahead of their time. It's been years, and many companies stil don't get it. (sigh)

Anybody play a lot of Monopoly? Here are some home rules to make your games more interesting.

One More Time

We have one more day of the heat (they tell us) then we can have storms. Then cooler for a few days.

Note to self - I should be more careful when lifting heavy things over head.

Has anybody seen a Yaris in person? They look kind of cool on the commercial, but those can be deceptive sometimes (accidentally, I'm sure). :-)

A significant number of people in my country are so fat that they can't be accurately X-rayed.

Yeah, I know it's kind of random, I blame it on the late hour and the temp. Hopefully whan it cools a bit I'll start making more sense.

Monday

It's hot here, I could whine about it, but I think you've all heard it. Tomorrow too.

Thanks to my Aussie friends for the responses!

Ever have one of those days where it seemed really long, but you didn't get much done? Me too.

Today is National Raspberry Cream Pie Day
Tomorrow is National Ice Cream Sandwich Day
Thursday is National Watermelon Day

Is there some kind of food theme here?

The 8th is Sneak Some Zucchini Onto Your Neighbor's Porch Night.
Do what? Why? Who writes these things? And what color is the sky in their world?

(more tomorrow)
